Delight In Weakness

Weakness is often seen as a negative, no one wants to appear weak, we want to appear as if we can do it all. In the work place, in the home, even in church, everyone wants to show that they are capable. The problem with this comes when we are unable to to admit that we need help, when we put ourselves under unnecessary pressure and then wonder where God is. In 2 Corinthians 12:10 , Paul tells of how he delights in weakness, pain and suffering...why? Who would say that this is something to be joyous about, no one wants to suffer or experience pain. However, Paul was happy to experience this, not because of the experience itself, but because when he was at his weakest point, the Divine power of the Holy Spirit gave him the strength to go on. When we try to do something by ourselves we can get in God's way, but when we admit that we need help, when we step back and cast our burdens or weaknesses onto Him, we allow Him the room in which to move in that situation. So in

Set The Standard: Conclusion

Matt 7:17-20 , 24-27 , the word of God is our standard, when you follow it there is nothing that can hinder you, or come against you. God's blessings will be an active part in your life and there is no way that others will be able to ignore it. It's up to each individual believer to keep themselves in check. This means looking into yourself and determining whether you are letting standards drop. Before doing anything that you think may not be to Gods standard, you can ask yourself these questions. 1. Will this activity violate my conscience? Romans 14:22-23 . If you feel that something is or maybe below God's standard, don't do it. If you go against your conscience in small matters, it makes it easier to do it over more serious matters. 2. Will my doing this activity cause weaker Christians to doubt or do something against God's will. Or could it set a bad example of Christian behaviour for others? 1 Corinthians 10:23-33 . Be an example to new believers, t

Set The Standard - Part 3: Integrity

Another aspect of Christian living, which is always under scrutiny is our integrity. Integrity determines how honest someone is, it's an indication of our moral compass. Lets look first at  Matt 5:33-37 . Here we see that a person of integrity doesn't need to swear by anything in order for people to believe them. People know that they can be trusted, because they have shown it time and time again. As a believer, if you are not trusted by unbelievers then there is something very wrong. You should be the most trustworthy person they know, you shouldn't have to swear on your children's lives or urge people to 'trust me'. As well as being trustworthy, having integrity also means you are humble,  Matt 6:1-4 . A person of integrity doesn't need to tell people all the great things that they do. They don't try to  instantly draw attention themselves, instead others will speak of their good works. When you have integrity, your motivation for doing anythin

Set The Standard- Part 2: Behaviour

As Christians, the main thing we think of when it comes to how we live out our faith is our behaviour. This is the thing that everyone sees, the thing by which we can be judged. We are being watched by the world and we in turn watch them and compare their behaviour to ours. We at times can think we are better than them because we live to a higher standard. But do we? Lets look at some areas in which we as Christians should be setting the standard with our behaviour. Matt 5:27-28 , it is common knowledge that in the Christian faith, adultery is a sin. It is one which people see as a big sin. However, adultery is not just physical, it can also be mental. This includes joining in when unbelievers are looking at someone in a lustful way, whether in person or an image. How can you claim to be different if you are joining in in this way. Really you should turn away, explain you have no interest. When they see that you don't join them in such things, they will know that you

Bible Study: Q&A

The questions for this week Q & A Bible study are: Q1: In line with Mark 3:22, Do we as believers still have a Strong Man to bind? Q2: Is it biblical to wear a veil for your wedding? Please comment with what God speak to you regarding these questions. Remember, this is a time for discussion, not debate. Do not pull others down and please express any points of view in a Christ like manner.
